A good Odoo migration moves what the business needs — and deliberately leaves behind what only existed because the old system allowed it.
Migrate outcomes, not clutter
Open documents, balances, and active masters matter. Decade-old unused custom fields usually do not. Every field you keep is a field someone must maintain.
Rewrite processes where Odoo is stronger
Do not recreate every legacy workaround. If Odoo’s standard quotation-to-cash flow covers 80% of cases, train for the standard and isolate exceptions.
Integrations last, truth first
Stabilize core flows before reconnecting every peripheral system. Integrating a messy core multiplies mess across the landscape.
Cutover as a project
Name owners for freeze, import, validation, and hypercare. Migrations fail in communication more often than in SQL.
